BIG wins charity football match vs rivals Becker

In the last two years, the Brain Inflammation Group have set up a 5-a-side football team. The team play every Wednesday evening, with new players always welcome! The team comprises a mix of all abilities, from football newbies to the pros.

More recently, a very competitive 5-a-side tournament was held on University grounds! A face-ff between the BIG football team and the Lydia Becker Institute, more commonly known as ‘the Becker’. The tournament consisted of 4 teams vying for the glory of being crowned the first winners of the inflammation 5-a-side tournament!

In the baking heat of an early August evening, the tournament began, with two Becker teams taking on two BIG teams. The first two matches were highly competitive, but BIG came out on top in both games! Following a short hydration pause, the second round of matches took place. Though the players were becoming weary in the summer heat, BIG showed no mercy and won again! 2/2 for both BIG 5-a-side teams! Though they were very worthy opponents, the Becker were no match for our 5-a-side teams!

The evening culminated in a BIG vs BIG showdown for the crown and Becker vs Becker show down for the 3rd place prize. It was a terrifically fun day with everyone enjoying themselves and getting the opportunity to show off the football skills they have developed over the last two years.

As you can see, there were no hard feelings after the games, with all members of the BIG football team posing for a post-tournament photograph! Following the match everyone headed out for a drink in celebration of our win! Our very own Billie Matchett was named BIG player of the match, and Rachel Finlay was named Becker player of the match.
