Brain Inflammation Group
Understanding inflammatory mechanisms in the health and diseases brain to reveal novel therapeutic targets
BIG research spans the understanding of basic mechanisms of inflammation through to clinically based research that modifies clinical practice for the management of brain injury and disease.
Using the latest molecular and cellular techniques to understand the regulation of inflammatory mediators, we subsequently target these mechanisms in pre-clinical models of disease and multi-morbidity, and ultimately investigate in patients with neurodegenerative disease and injury such as stroke, with the ultimate aim of improving patient outcomes.
Approaches to treatment span from delivery of drugs early after stroke to reduce brain injury to regenerative medicine for repair and recovery of brain function.
This diverse research environment provides a stimulating and fun place to work and train.
